done using blender - cycles render - box modeling

"hi i'm Olaf i am a snowman and i like warm hugs"

model in blender 2.68 then test render in 2.69.11 i know i know the question why? well i did not know i am on the old blender till i start make materials and was going to make render so that is why i have 3 blender icons lol will organize 
I did quick render here just for fun 
cycles render 50 samples
the snow material

but change the noise texture as in the image 
i still need to make background and do good lighting this just ambient occlusion 0.5 
I really enjoy this cute character Olaf from frozen movie and i want to get back in blender so here we go 

it is box modeling .. Poly model is not working for me, I had tried this character's face, but I lost the flow in the topology so I did it in my own way box modeling I do not think I will try the poly modeling in character again soon but will try to learn it later I guess but not in my head right now  .. For me, I do all the characters in box modeling

this material was not created by me i had post the link to give credit to the artist .. I only had change the number of the noise to make it more snow as in olaf that is all .. I am trying to learn more and more cycles materials by read and videos but i am very noob in that area .. Modeling is my favorite time in blender material and set up for render i still need a lot to learn  .. It had been some time since i used blender will do materials test to re charge my memory

The reference I had used for modeling   

I took few photos one side view that was easier to get the front view is the one had given me some trouble to be on the same size and the lines with the eyes and mouth those was my key point I had focused on  I had used Photoshop to resize and adjust the photo to be a good reference for modeling  and work my way in box modeling the face than the body and hands 
I had used from the movie screenshots


 the images i had used for modeling .. I had start with the two in the background the screen shot side view and the Olaf poster front view from frozen FB then add the new body from a photo i found online that the one in the front to make him more curvy  .. it little mess but i do not care as long it had read for me to be able to model it works for me .. the mouth and the eyes in both are not the same ok .. but for me those was my start my start point for modeling


i had used an other photo but did not save in the middle before the new update that is it .. i had rotate and edit the character to follow the outline as much as possible and rest the rotation and made my new update .. and that is Olaf character from frozen movie that is screen shot from the movie

 as for learn modeling here my answer ;)

 if you did not model anything before may i recommend see this
it is blender basic
 learn modeling you really need to understand the basic and personally i had learn that you need to start with the basic project to build your modeling knowledge

 start with simple projects like glass or something simple do not do the same mistake i did before i had start with big project which i did not finish it was this
but i had learned alot from my many mistakes in my way ;)

also i learn from many YouTube channels

those are very good and i am sure there are many more :)

or just type blender model (X) and you will get many result 

after you learn how to model and really feel you had understand how to model without tutorials do not limit your search only to blender  search for speed art  and tutorial from other software

I search  maya for organic modeling characters etc and 3d max for architect and hard surface modeling C4D for low poly and mix between organic and hard surface

I had learn character modeling and good topology from  this videos

Maya 3D modeling: Simple semi realistic body modeling

and do not forget to see topology it is the key to model characters i like this a lot

than after you learn modeling you can jump to the next level see the character you want to model and find modeling sheet or make your own from images like Olaf character and model :)
